biketuberug091108.jpgAs a cycling enthusiast, I love anything recycled from bike parts. When I saw a photo of this sleek, modern rug from recycled inner tubes, I had to learn more.

Crafted by Danish textile designer and weaver Annemette Beck, this rug is woven from recycled inner tubes that are cut to length and woven on a loom into an alternating pattern of tight and wide bands. She has done the same with other materials, including plastic bags.

While some may argue that the rubber is not recyclable itself and composed of harsh chemicals, turning something that otherwise would end up in the landfill into a thing of beauty is what has me loving this rug. Now if only it were affordable, or something I could do myself!
