If you ever wanted to have a green USB flash drive, you'll want to have this one. It's a USB flash drive that's actually made out of recycled cardboard. Now, when technology evolves, you can just recycle the whole thing quite easily. We thought that this was a pretty neat idea, kind of like the cardboard computer and other cardboard devices that are popping up all over the place.
This USB stick is made out of recycled cardboard. The big card that you see includes five sticks that can be detached by cracking them along the dotted lines. This was developed by Colin Garceau-Tremblay for his design class. USB sticks can be used for quite a long time, but it happens often enough that they are lost. This is why Colin thought about making a USB flash drive out of recycled paper. This way the ecological footprint is diminished.
We thought that this was a great idea. Corrugated cardboard can be waterproof and fireproof, thus it can be used to make devices such as these without any problems. Since USB flash drives are usually used and then put aside when newer and larger ones appear, this solves the way to recycle them easily. Since the packaging and parts of the drive are made out of cardboard, they can be easily recycled. This is a totally green and interesting project. [via NotCot, images by Sylvain Allard]
