In preparation for an upcoming project, I’ve been collecting wine corks by the bag-full from a local restaurant that participates in a cork recycling program. A quick online search of the organization led me to their line of recycled cork products, and I was (ahem) floored when I saw their patented mosaic cork tiles - a beautiful option for a kitchen or bath.
Jelinek Cork Group, an organization that collects and recycles hundreds of thousands of used wine corks each year, offers a wide variety cork products running the gamut from fishing accessories and furniture to wall coverings and flooring. I was especially impressed by the look of their mosaic line, which seems to almost resemble the beauty of embedded coins. Aside from its stunning aesthetic, the mosaic cork flooring is as easy to install as the glue-and-grout method of any other ceramic tile and comes with a whole world of eco-friendly benefits.
Both a natural product and a renewable resource, cork makes a great home flooring option for a number of reasons. Aside from the soft and warm underfoot comfort, cork makes for an excellent insulator, is anti-allergenic and water resistant - making it perfect for wet areas like kitchens and bathrooms. As a durable, low-maintenance surface I have even seen friends sing its praises for its kid and pet-friendliness.
