We've posted before about Emeco's recycled 111 Navy Chair but now that it's actually here, we've got more photos for you to see! As showcased at the Milan Furniture Fair, the 111 Navy chair is an exact replica of the ever-so-popular aluminum 1944 Navy Chair, but instead it's made from 111 recycled plastic bottles.
The Emeco 111 Navy Chair "with Coca-Cola" is made from a hollow one-piece injection-molding using 60% recycled PET plastic (recycled soda bottles). Approximately 111 plastic bottles are used in each chair and will be available for purchase next month at Design Within Reach. Glass fiber is used for reinforcement and pigment is added for color. It will be available in six colors: Coca-Cola red, snow, flint gray, grass, persimmon and charcoal. Only red, snow and flint gray are recommended for outdoor use.
All colors come with a 5-year structural guarantee and are made to last, weighing in at a minuscule 13 pounds. They'll run about $230 which is quite a bit for a chair, but compared to its aluminum counterpart ($415), it's quite a bargain. The first prototypes were molded in April of 2010 and were just launched at the Milan Furniture Fair (April 14 - 19).
