The creator is 10th generation gardener, Felder Rushing, who is also author or co-author of 16 gardening books. He also hosts The Gestalt Gardener with garden advice and stories in Mississippi.
Felder's style is fun, funky and down to earth...and looks like he doesn't waste a thing. Innovation and creative reuse are obvious throughout his gardens, as both the bottle border and upcycled tire planter show in the third image above.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I love this idea! And I have way, way too many old bottles.
Nice idea.
Aren't all the dimples in the bottoms of the wine bottles are breeding grounds for mosquitoes?
I would think that the dimples are so shallow, the water should evaporate before the little buggers can hatch.
I've thought about doing this, but what happens when you...mis-aim the mower or are clumsy with the string trimmer? Shattered glass in the yard just seems dangerous. But...damn purty.
How about glass 40's? We're not classy enough to go through that much wine.
I know the how-tos here are positive... but I have to post a cautionary tale not if you're considering using glass as an outdoor building material. I purchased a home where these had been used once upon a time, and they were all still in place, but broken after a few years of being mowed around, tripped on, being with with rocks, etc. After taking my dog to the vet 4 times to have her paws stitched, and one trip to the ER for stitches for my wife, we proceeded to dig up half our back yard, and discovered the remnants of a border built this way, to demarcate a planter, and then not cared for. After all the bottles had been broken, the jagged glass was hidden by the bushes and plants, and made it hard to find. It seemed like we would pick up buckets worth of glass, and then we'd still find more the next time we scoured... the only way to ensure all the broken pieces were gone was to dig up that area and haul it off..
My entire garden is edged with beer bottles! I get so many compliments on it, not one has ever broken, and best of all... it was FREE!

Our neighbor has used wine & vodka bottles throughout the front yard. It looks tacky. Other neighbors have talked to them about alcoholism & asked if they needed help.
