042108_red2.jpgMaybe it's the pagoda umbrellas, but we remembered that we had wanted to try out some red lanterns in the garden to throw off a moody (and flattering!) glow that will still feel festive and fun.

One of our readers, Jess, had this experience making the red lanterns more outdoor friendly:

I recently purchased some nylon lanterns instead of paper so they would be more weatherproof, and this weekend I rigged solar lighting on the inside and hung them. They let off a subtle glow; it's nice. You can also buy battery powered lights made specifically for lanterns, so you could always light them that way. Supposed to get like a 40 hour life out of the battery, which is pretty good as long as you remember to turn them off when you're not outside!

Thanks for the tips Jess!
