Reddish Studio: Embroidered Furniture

I've been working on a small, embroidered throw pillow for approximately twenty years. Clearly, my work has not been consistent. Suffice it to say, I appreciate the level of commitment that goes into the craft. Moreover, I understand the desire for artisans to showcase a completed embroidery in a more substantive place than an errant pillow or sideline wall hanging. One of the most innovative ways I've recently seen this done is in a handcrafted table made by Reddish Designs.

The intriguing, 9-year old company, whose trademark design moves consistently turn tradition on its head, has created a table into which the designers have cross stitched a floral motif. The aptly-named x-table is made of wood and has chunky, clean lines; yet its look is softened by the image of a meandering floral vine embroidered into the hard material. The look is surprising and daring, managing to give an edge to a homey craft that I'm pretty sure my Rainbow Brite needlepoint won't ever achieve.
