i've heard rumors that they are looking at bunny williams to do the white house. anyone else heard other rumors?
I think that after reviewing the suggestions I was dumbfounded by the designers comments on how to "green" the White house using sustainable fabrics & etc. How would throwing out wonderful pieces with history and quality be any greener than keeping the decor as is? Do we not recognize that our obsession with being green has lead to more waste, as we replace what is already good with new "eco-friendly" items? It's dizzying!

Green isn't about buying all new to replace what you already have - It's about making appropriate choices all the way around, including reusing what you already own.
IMO, the absolutely WORST thing that our new First Family could do is to engage in a grand spending/redecorating spree right now when so many of our neighbors are losing jobs and homes and retirement funds - and being forced to do without.
Bunny Williams can wait another couple of years to get her commission...
If redecorating is already part of the White House budget, I fail to see how not redecorating helps anyone. It wouldn't surprise me if they're not allowed to use the money for anything else, such as making a donation to charity. And, the government being the way it is, going through the rigamarole of diverting the funds to something more useful would probably cost a lot in paperwork and red tape.
Well, if decorating is not already planned into the budget, I agree with everyone else. It's ridiculous and just plain wrong to plan out new curtains and installing spas when so many Americans are going to be homeless! Lead by example, I think. We're paying for their house - they don't need to spend our money on new china!
