When I returned from a tropical getaway last week, I left behind the luxuries of fresh towels, clean sheets and a daily maid, for a pile of laundry and an apartment in need of being swiffered. Despite this unfortunate trade-off, walking into our apartment post vacation was a great reminder of what I really love about our home.
Ultimately, it's the people that make a place. All you have to do is browse our House Tours to see that people bring warmth and interest to their environments. Their personalities rub off on their homes and the way they live, adding intrigue and drawing us in.
Yes, I've been meaning to center the artwork above our bed and replace the curtains in the bedroom, but these little flaws weren't what stood out to me. I saw our comfy couch, all messed up with blankets and pillows, and home, with my boyfriend, was exactly where I wanted to be.
The real charm in a home isn't found in a perfectly staged interior, but sometimes it takes a conscious reality check not to get caught up in products and perfection. Why not embrace the quirkiness you and those you live with contribute to your home, because it's the little imperfections that define your space and separate it from the rest.
