um, I thought a tete-a-tete was like two chairs fastened together in an S shape, so that one person sat facing one direction and the other faced the opposite direction -- the two would then be face-to-face, tete-a-tete.

I don't know what the sofa above would be called, but it looks lovely (just don't make me sit in the middle, I have visions of tipping backwards where there's no back!)

I believe I have seen this sofa in an old issue of Williams-Sonoma Home (their furniture catalog).

Smallcitybeth is correct. they are also called doe-se-does. I'd call the piece in the picture a day bed or a settee and it reminds of something from Todd Hanes. It is quite lovely.

If length not an issue, a similar configuration could be created with a right- and left-arm chaise, end to end, perhaps retrofit with on single cushion.

i also saw something not unlike this at West Elm recently -- check the link in my name. i can't see the legs of the pictured chaise, so i'm not sure if the feel is really that similar -- the West Elm model has very minimalist squared chrome legs.

i have to say, i've never seen anything like this which also has those two little back rests or cushions adjoining the arms.

Where is this photo from? That might help people out. If it's from a magazine, I've called editors before and tracked down clients from a photo spread to find out what something is. Yes, that sounds a little crazy, now that I'm writing it down, but I'm sure I'm not the first who's done that either. Or you can also take the image to a furniture maker and have it reproduced.

Did you try Jonathan Adler? I think he has something similar.

It is a great peice. I just found this great store on 20th Street at 145 W 20th called Natrona Furniture, they have amazing stuff, they might have it. You should go to this store it is H.O.T. This place just opened. They have a website Natrona.com, although I do not think it is up yet, I got a 10% discount card from it.

That's a handsome piece of furniture, and it really does capture the imagination.

Thanks for all the feedback. This piece is from a room by interior designer Aimmee Kim and was featured on the HGTV website. I tries Aimmee Kim's website for credits but had no luck. I will continue to search and take a look at some of the places you guys reccommend. I just have to find this piece, I have not seen something this nice, interesting and realistic for actual living spaces in quite some time. Thanks again for all of your help and of course if anyone else has other suggestions please do chime in.
