- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- We have a two year old and the rest of the house is leather, colorful and wipeable. I missed my old life with white texture so this room got a makeover. This is my retreat.
The white down comforter and deep dark walls with hardly anything on them are so serene.
Our king bed takes up most of the room, but we don't do much in there but sleep and get dressed, so we don't need more room than that.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- Since our house is tiny, our room has to be organized. We used kitchen cabinet bases from ikea to solve the storage problems in our house. We have two small closets in our entire house and three (soon to be four) people - and this room doesn't have room for a dresser.
Our bed is organic latex and was WELL worth the investment. We feel safe sleeping with our little guy with no flame retardants in our room. The paint is also zero VOC (which goes on really nicely too).
I'm also just a purger - if it doesn't have a place, it goes to goodwill. Even if we love it.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- In our teeny bedroom, there's no room for any of that. We do spend a lot of time in there reading and chatting after our son goes to sleep. We have book rests next to our bed and cozy lighting that makes it a snuggle zone. We also have an excessive amount of pillows.

love it! so peaceful
Love it, love the color, the white bed, all those curtains. I've been planning a master bedroom redo and find myself picking this type of color swatch over and over...and it goes particularly well with those orangey oak floors I (and Regina) have.
I'd love to know the color of that paint!
The walls are Benjamin Moore Steel Wool - my husband was HORRIFIED when he came home (at dusk) to what looked like black walls, but once it was all decorated (with the white duvet cover and curtains) we both look forward to cozying up there.
Thanks!
I'm not seeing "excessive" amounts of pillows in here, and the matchy book props look a little silly, but I really like the overall clean look of this room. If I could get my husband to pick up his side of our bedroom, I'd love to do a minimalist styled bedroom like this!
@skylarkmelody, my son calls our room "The beehive" because the light shade does cast really cool shadows on the walls! Totally not intentional, but fun to have a room with a name!
@miranar, the pregnancy pillows are NOT relaxing or minimal - they live in the crib during the day so I don't have to look at them :)
I love it! The rich wood floors with the white baseboard and the dark walls is one of my favorite color combos.
I've been eyeing that chandelier for months! It looks even better in person.
Love the colors and bedside table solution.
Where's that chandelier from?
The chandelier is from Cost Plus - we didn't have an overhead light in our room. Since the new layout didn't leave room for even a standing lamp, we used a chain light kit from Home Depot (in the wrong color - one of these days we'll spray the chain to match the chandelier).
I love it , I love the grey walls, and as I am a total white bedlinen fan, its gorgeous for me.
First picture: "OMG I LOVE THIS ROOM. IS THAT NAVY??" Second picture: ".....did she do some kind of wonky purple tie dye effect on the other walls? Why would she do that?! Gross." Then I realized that the paint color is just being a jerk and reading differently in every shot + the light is throwing shadows. Haha.
Simply gorgeous--love the dark grey and crisp white combo. Did that with one wall in our office (white built-in book shelves with a very similar BM dark grey background wall). The gold accents really work with it too. Lucky you!
a little thrown off by the closet door and the tiny upright cabinet being so close together. when you open the door, doesn't it hit the cabinet? everything else is lovely, though!
Terrific! Why not paint the outlet cover on the wall?
I love the chandelier! It's beautiful. I had no idea Cost Plus could look that good. And honestly I like the contrasting chain. :) Great bedroom - dark without being goth and I am a HUGE fan of all white on the bed.
I really like the little book props - great use of space when you don't have room for a bedside table. You could even put little alarm clocks on the shelf along with the book.
I love the bed tucked in between the two storage units. Looks cozy! I have a little bit of a lighting fetish so I love the chandelier, especially the way it throws an interesting pattern on the wall. At first I didn't think much of the pieces on the walls and the walls look kind of boring, but when the lamp is on it creates a nice effect and it works with the simple wall hangings.
Absolutely beautiful! The apartment I'm currently subletting is painted a very dark charcoal with hints of navy (like wet pavement) and I've been trying to find a similar paint color for my next apartment because I love it so much.
Would you mind telling me where the wall art is from?
Thanks folks :) The color is definitely more of the dark grey and not that purple. The wall art is from thrift stores - sorry! It isn't too hard to find that style though!
hi! love the room! Where did you get your organic latex bed? thanks!
There is a local store in SF called "A Happy Planet." They do sell online as well - not cheap, but we love our bed (bought a second for our toddler as well).
where did you get the book stands?
@joanng - Those are ikea ribba picture frame ledges.
I have the same exact dresser that folds out into a standing vanity! So cool! I found it at a flea market, and I thought it was so unusual. Do you know anything about your (our) dresser (where it's from, how old it is, etc)?
I bought mine on craigslist - so no idea! My husband insists it is called a "shaving chest" but if you google that, you get a lot of naked men pictures :) "shaving chest midcentury" got me more results that make me think he knows what he's talking about :)
