There is nothing sadder than a beaten-down playground. The rusted broken equipment, trash blowing around in the breeze, the sparkle of broken glass on asphalt and, most of all, the lack of kids. For a truly uplifting community project, you just can't beat restoring or creating a neighborhood playground. Luckily, there is an organization out there to help you get started.
We last checked in with Kaboom! this summer to talk about their Park-A-Day Challenge. We are glad to report they are still moving full steam ahead in their mission to create play spaces for kids everywhere. Their most recent endeavor was the Scary Playgrounds contest (to coincide with Halloween, obviously), in which people sent in pictures of sad neglected playgrounds in order to win a chance to have it completely rehabbed. Check out this before and after:
While that contest is over, it is well worth mentioning that Kaboom! has playground grants available to communities in need of financial assistance. They also have an online project planner to help get the ball rolling. Long live play!
