If you're sick of the increasing commercialization of the holidays, here's a breath of fresh air. Outdoor retailer REI is closing all of its locations on Black Friday in a push to get people outside (while paying for their employees to have the day off, too).
REI's CEO Jerry Stritzke writes, "For 76 years, our co-op has been dedicated to one thing and one thing only: a life outdoors. We believe that being outside makes our lives better. And Black Friday is the perfect time to remind ourselves of this essential truth."
They're not the first retailer to go anti-Black Friday. in 2013, Patagonia launched a campaign to promote repairing their products instead of buying new ones.
