If there's one thing we're good at here in Boston it is stalling out major building projects. Have you seen the cavernous Filene's hole in the ground in Downtown Crossing? The Globe asked local artists and architects to rethink these unfortunate eyesores and integrate them with the culture of the city...Construction stopped on Filene's redevelopment in 2008 — a $700 million project that does not look like its coming back online anytime soon. There are some far out designs like Howler & Yoon's algae and biofuel lab composed of prefab "eco-pods" (first picture) and Utile Inc.'s sheep pasture harkening back to the days when the Commons served that very purpose (4th picture); and some more realistic proposals like Cynthia Bubb's bike park / urban drive-in theatre (last picture).
3 other stalled building projects — Harvard Complex, Columbus Center, and Longwood Biolab — were also reimagined. Check out all the entries on Boston.com and vote for your favorite!
