All very, very pretty but the cleaning in #5 would be a nightmare.
Side note: Those floor lamps in #3 rock!
Rather than make a quilt or pillowcases using favorite/sentimental old t-shirts, I cut out the designs and put them in embroidery hoops. Grouped five or so on my wall, and it looks fantastic. My mom saw it and teared up a little that I'd saved some of her old clothes that she gave to me... :)
@Ohmydarlin What a great idea!
I love most of these -- especially the message boards. I may try that out in my office or kitchen.
Love Ohmydarlin's idea!
I have a few of these in my bedroom in place of a headboard/art. I only have about 5 and think it looks boring. now I know i need to put up about 15 to look cool, haha.
I have about 12 hanging above my tv and love them. I mixed in a few hand carved items given to us by family and it looks so nice. Of course, I have a sort of modernist granny style so it works.
"... using embroidery hoops as decor might seem a bit too granny-chic, when used with a tongue in cheek sensibility ..." AT has a morbid fear of things that are "dated," and here tries to mask it by suggesting we pretend we're not sincere about our design choices. Two problems: (1) Some things are definitely dated (outhouses) and some things that are just as old are perfectly fine (end tables). Many things will seem fatally dated to some yet peachy-keen to others. Therefore the only reason to label something "dated" is to promote design snobbery (and sell more new stuff). "You're still fond of formica / owls / Harvest Gold / impressionism / brass / teal? OMG, that's so dated!" (2) Do we really want to live a meta-life where we are afraid to admit that we honestly like the things we have chosen? "Those embroidery hoops are tongue-in-cheek, by the way. I have a tiki bar, but it's ironic. I would never seriously wear this hipster fedora, nor my sarcastic chunky eyeglasses. Isn't my chenille bedspread a hoot? ..."
