New Year- new house. Everyone's organizing and renovating, including the dolls. Joslyn of Simply Lovely had given her daughter a simple, unfinished wooden dollhouse a while back, but everyone had quickly lost interest in it. So- they boxed it up and sent it to the North Pole to see if Santa could do a little renovating...
We had a similar situation when we were growing up. When we got our first real dollhouse, it was also unfinished wood. The next year, it was finished with stucco and brown paint- English tudor style. We really like the idea of stretching out a gift by starting simple and then embellishing it at another time.
If the kids haven't played with the dollhouse in a while, maybe it just needs some sprucing up like this one? Let the fresh color palette and modern design of Joslyn's dollhouse inspire you!

I was wondering if you could tell me where you got the dollhouse. I read your post, but may have missed it if it was there.
a few years back I got my old doll house. It had had a very hard life since I had played with it as a child. It was painted roof to sidewalk in green spray paint. I am happy to say I have rescued it and brought it back to life with a little paint and love. I would love to play around with it a little more, but my daughter loves it and won't let it out of her room. I am waiting for the day I get it back (at least until I have grand kids)
msamma - try Plan Toys or Ryan's Room for the furniture, it looks like that to me, not sure about the house.
I like seeing this done, I had the same thought while my daughter played with one in a store. Natural wood gets really grubby and all the wood-on-wood tones are kind of flat. At the end of the day, we went for a painted one instead of a Waldorf-y style so it will stay clean and get played with.
We had the same problem with an unfinished Melissa and Doug dollhouse. My daughter lost interest in it pretty quickly. So far I've painted the outside (I did the back of the house with chalkboard paint) but still need to do the interior and furniture. The whole process has been a lot of fun for my daughter and for me!
scrapbook paper makes an inexpensive and colorful material for dollhouse wallpaper or floor covering. there are so many different styles readily available at craft stores.
