Kristen of Storefront Life recently wrote to us and shared photos of the new custom DIY counters that she and her husband made for their converted storefront's kitchen. While researching possible options, they fell hard and fast for concrete but didn't have exactly have the budget to hire someone. Being DIY type of people, they decided instead to take on the task themselves. They knew it was a big project, but a do-able one.
Making the counters involved hand-pressing a thick concrete mix (almost like cookie dough) into molds to form a very beautiful and one-of-a-kind concrete surface. Everything — including building the forms, pouring the mix, and finishing work — was done in their 240 square foot garage over the course of two weekends. Final project cost? $1000.
