There was a time when avocado bathrooms were all the rage, and that was terrible, and since then, I think, we've all been a bit wary about color in the bathroom. But maybe, just maybe, it's time for color to make a comeback. If you're a firm believer that anything more permanent than the bathmat needs to be white, these colorfully powder coated vintage-style sinks and tubs might be just the thing to change your mind.

Case in point — who would ever think that a hot pink tub could be anything less than awful? But as this photo proves, in the right interior a hot pink tub can be just the thing — the perfect pop of color in a modern bathroom. The key here, I think, is to keep the rest of the color palette simple to let the colorful fixture really shine.

The sink in the photo above (and in the top photo) is Kohler's Brockway utility sink. In both cases, the underside of the sink has been powder coated to add just a little extra color to the bathroom. You can get this done at a local auto body shop, or anywhere that does powder coating.

If the fixtures in question are already in your bathroom, painting is also an option. The tub in the bathroom above was painted in a bright lime green. In this bathroom from Houzz, both the sink and tub were painted with a semigloss alkyd oil-based paint.

And finally, a cheerful bathroom with a powder coated sink AND tub — a color lover's dream.
