Standard toilet seats are around 15 inches high. The extra two inches added to a comfort height toilet may not seem like much, but if you have hip, knee or back pain, they might make all the difference.

Unfortunately for short people or kids they are extremely uncomfortable. I'm five feet tall. My feet dangle.
They may be uncomfortable for shorter people, but for tall people and people with mobility issues, they are AWESOME. I'm almost six feet tall, and I love comfort height toilets.
After I had abdominal surgery a couple of years ago, I was *wishing* I had a taller toilet. It was so difficult to use a standard toilet.
