Yesterday, reader April asked how apartment renters can harness solar energy. Here's an interesting possibility we spotted at CES: the ReNu personal power generation and storage system.

It isn't a whole-home solution, but for those who can't afford or install solar panels, the ReNu could be a versatile and stylish way to power personal electronics like iPhones, iPods, an LED lamp, and other USB-enabled devices. The modular panel gets charged in the sun, and then slides into a range of docking stations and components.

We weren't the only ones who noticed the ReNu, either. The product received a CES design and engineering Innovations award.

ReNu panels and components will be available in stores this spring and summer, but buyers can place pre-orders and receive early supporter discounts on the company's website.
