Although I've written a bajillion posts on how to makeover everything from your curtains to your carpet, one thing that wasn't on my radar was doorstops. They are inherently ugly, and although I didn't think of it first, I'm glad someone else did. Does your doorstop need a makeover?
Landee wasn't a fan of her old doorstop. It's not that it exactly cried out to be changed, but there's always room for little improvements right?
She picked up a wooden finial with attached screw and some small rubber bumpers. After a quick coat of paint, the bumper was applied to the end and the finial was exchanged for the old doorstop. It's the little things that make the biggest improvements, so keep this fun project in the back of your mind next time you hit the hardware store!

Cute. I just painted my cheapo doorstops the same white as the trim and they look a million times better.
Aw, I love these old springy doorstops. I love the sound they make and the temptation they provide for my daughter and my cats. I used to sit behind my grandparents' door to buzz-buzz-buzzzz.
I love the springy ones, too! They're also a lot more functional than the finial. I had 6 door slamming brothers and sisters, and we soon realized that the spring stoppers would just bend if you flung the door in an adolescent rage. The finials would definitely just leave a big hole.
This is a good way to childproof, because my little guys would take off the rubber stoppers on the springs and put them in their mouths.
Looks great, but I'm with radioriot. This would be no match for all the door-banging drama queens out there.
I am going to put this on my list of projects that I never need to do.
yeah, I'd hate to rob my cat of the joy of the spring...though in some cases she removed and hid them
Haha, @potpie, I agree! Whew, one less project to worry about.
I like the little stoppers you put on your door hinges to keep the door from opening too wide. It works great and there's no need for anything to be sticking out the floor - you really never see it.
We're with inkstainedwriter. We put them on the hinges.
I would prefer to have something springy or a little bit squashy so there's a little give. Hmmm. Maybe a squeaky dog toy. Maybe we could enhance the drama queen aspect of flinging open the door by programming the stopper to say, "I will not be IGNORED!"
"Did you see Sheila's remodel?"
"Yes it looked wonderful! Well except for those shabby old spring style door stops!"
"I know let's never be friends with her again!"
My cat used to use the springy ones too - to wake me up. She got such joy out of annoying me early in the morning!

I think the "after" is kind of bleh, personally. However, it's a pretty good idea to "spiff" up the plain ol' brass and plastic thing. I personally would spray paint it.
I hate how you have to click the "read more" to see the actual complete item. Then when you click through you think, "Well that looks kinda s@!#ty!
I admit to being pleased I'm not the only one who finds this ridiculous.
I'm not sure it's that much cooler to go from something that looks like hardware to, um, something that looks like hardware.
Now, if someone screwed some random funky found object to the baseboard, THAT would be cool.
(Our place is small enough that there aren't any doors with a door-sized swath of wall next to them for it to slam into. Our doors just bonk into whatever furniture is there.)
Nice. I like that the contact is on the inside of the door, instead of the back. I wonder if my girls would slam too hard for this to work. This is probably only for grownups who lightly hit the door into the wall. As for the many haters, this is a small spruce up, not a major renovation. It's something you can do to repurpose some things that you may have laying around. It does look nicer than the spring, It will probably go un-noticed, It won't change any ones life, but it is kind of nice. My only concern is that there is no shock resistance in the finial.
