We received an email yesterday warning us that certain models of kitchen dishwashers were having issues with a design/defect which might cause control circuit board failure, which then in turn might lead to a fire. Check out the list below to see if your model might be one amongst those reported with the problem, including some photos of the issues reported.

Reported models with this issue include KitchenAid, Sears Kenmore, Whirlpool brand dishwashers (these are all rebranded models originally manufactured by Whirlpool) with the following model numbers:

  • KUDS0
  • KUDW0
  • KUDP0
  • KUDI0
  • KUDM0
  • KUDKO
  • 665-16
  • 665-15
  • 665-17
  • FR31
  • FR32
  • FR26
  • FP47
  • GU1100XTLB1

There's supposedly been over 100 dishwasher fires reported as of October 5, 2010 according to KitchenAidFire.com, a site which lists Dishwasher Fire Incident Reports. You might want to check out the submitted reports to make sure your machine might be amongst those mentioned, if only for precautionary measures.
