I was hanging out at the Zum offices in Kansas City (they make this super awesome laundry soap) this past week and came across this dandy little idea. Trash cans seem to be extra expensive for anything outside of your average plastic big-box find, so why not repurpose a pretty planter instead?
Although this trash can was rather large in size, smaller platers can be found at lawn and garden centers (and online) for ridiculously good prices. Although a few areas are all mild weather year round, most of us will see snow soon and that means clearance time at greenhouses!
A simple bag is all it takes to complete it's functionality and if you want to add a dolly under it for an easy roll out, go right ahead! It's a simple idea that makes a statement and since you won't be planting anything in them, feel free to go crazy on color and hit up the spray paint aisle nearest you!

This looks really sloppy.
Jeez, I actually feel like planters are kind of expensive for this.
I agree chillrepute. Unless it's a plastic planter, I wouldn't spend that much on a trash can. I think this would look better, if it were a larger planter that allowed for a plastic insert so it looks much prettier.
sorry, don't believe this is worth blogging about - really? were you short on content today?
hideous
I like this idea. But I think someone should have tried to take a better picture. This looks really off.
Regretsy-ish, which will make it a cult hit. Actually, I think this is good idea. I'm not too sure about the receptacle in the photo, though.
We use a large silver metal can, the kind that is sometimes used for outdoors. $5 at Home Depot, chic and industrial, and our pit bull can't chew through it.
i mean this kind http://www.janisan.com/witt/galv1.gif
The bag overflowing the rim makes the whole thing look gross
Great idea in theory...bad implementation. Some of my planters (the ones used for their intended purpose) have been transformed with spray paint but thinkin I don't won't to draw attention to my garbage.
Maybe I could like it if the black garbage bag was not so....there??? or maybe not
just sayin..
Thats a pretty planter. It would look nice with a plant in it. :)
Actually, this would be a good temporary idea for a BBQ. Where, in some way, you do want to draw attention to the trash can so people know to use it.
