Repurposed Barrel Cabinets For Your Kitchen

Over the recent years and through multiple moves into open loft style residences I've considered many alternative options to the traditional kitchen cabinet. I've had to think out of the box a little, but never did 50 gallon drums cross my mind!Lockengeloet out of Germany has decided that there's a better use for the 50 gallon barrels so frequently used in the transportation of goods all across the world... cabinets! They've been cleaned out, sliced open and had all their rough edges sealed up. The door is supported by guitar strings to make it sturdy and shelves are added.

The look is super cool, but sadly the price tag isn't as each barrel goes for roughly $470 per barrel. Although I've seen high end side tables and bar carts at such a high price, the idea of outfitting an entire kitchen could be enough to make your head spin! You can see more on their process over at Lockengeloet, though you'll probably need some help from Google Translator (well, unless you speak German!).
