Yesterday's post on pipe plumbing shelves reminded us of a few other options for DIY storage. Crates, baskets, and old drawers can all be repurposed to make free (and green) shelving...
• 1 The Box Life Book Cabinet is a side table, cabinet, and milk crate all in one.
• 2 Colin and Terisa use wooden crates to hold their albums.
• 3 Monica from CraftyNest used wallpaper and old drawers to make shelves.
• 4 A wire basket mounted on the wall is an easy shelving solution.
• 5 Jacob and Laurie's shoe shelf is made from a CD rack.

The orange milk crate is a bit more like dorm therapy than apartment therapy I'm afraid.
The old wire basket has possibilities though.
Wood and wire crates are lovely. Plastic not so much, imho.
I wouldn't be surprised if Urban Outfitters found that milk crate/cabinet/table, stole the idea like many of their shirt designs, and massed produced it. It's right up their alley, it's kinda cute.
I wish I'd thought of the first one when my cat was still alive - her favorite scratching post was plastic milk crates! She was an awesome cat. I was obliged to always have at least one around so she wouldn't find a different piece of furniture to adopt (like the leather chairs!) Though I think hairpin legs might be more in keeping with the milk crate aesthetic...
The orange milk crate is dorm room cool. It beats the wood and cinderblock shelves.
Uhhh...
I like the cd rack for kids shoes a lot.
