We spotted these marvelous repurposed stools in the July 2008 issue of House Beautiful. This is one of the more brilliant salvage reuses we've seen in a long while. When folks repurpose things, it can sometimes look a little visually forced. But we think these stools would have been a lovely standalone design, even if they weren't originally used as truck springs. The homeowners found them at...
Artefact Design & Salvage in Sonoma, California.
Locally, you could check out Restoration Resources in Boston for architectural and other salvage pieces. (Their website seems to be currently under construction.)
What do you think of these stools?

I think they LOOK awesome, but I wonder if the spring contracts when someone sits on them? That would be weird if it was perceptible. I also wonder about the raw metal leaving marks on their nice slate floor. But still, great idea!
Since they're truck springs (and, as you can see, they are very thick), I'm guessing they barely budge when someone sits on them.
These look fantastic!
Must not they be heavy???
Would hate if one fell on my foot!!!
Cool looking!
I like them raw, but powder coating calls to me.
we like them, but we wonder if they have been treated so the rust isn't flaking?
I love the concept but all that rust just seems a little too icky for me... now that kitchen, on the other hand, is just breathtaking!
Love 'em!
Agree with pilgrim -- unless your weight is measured in tons, they won't budge when you sit on them.
I worked at a bar/restaurant during college that had stools just like these. They are very heavy and take a while to move. Also depending on how the bottom is finished off, potentially can destroy your floor finish. Very cool looking though.
Fabulous!
SWEET! Very nice, indeed!
SOOOO COOOL!!! Someone has to pick up on this and start producing them!!!
ooooh i love these.. i really really do...
WOW, LOVE these!
I saw these way back when and just LOVED them. I went to that site you noted but find no listing for them. I'd LOVE to know how much they cost!
I love, love, love this stuff but can't afford it. It's aesthetic torture. Yesterday I saw a gorgeous repurposed metal hand cart at Anthropologie priced at $4,800. I wept. Then I spotted an antique card catalogue for $5,400. I wailed, gnashed my teeth and continued my waddle toward the sale aisle.
TORMENT.
"Someone has to pick up on this and start producing them!!!"
Doesn't that defeat the purpose and intent of salvaged items. The repros are almost always inferior and more expensive.
You're worried about dropping one on your foot? Geez are you worried about dropping your stove on your foot, how about your TV, your dresser, your bookshelves. :-)
Yeah, they look cool, but I bet they weigh a lot and aren't easy to move. Nothing makes me more uncomfortable than to be too far away from a counter or bar (or to be trapped too close...). Generally a fan of the repurposed aesthetic but the bottom line is that it has to be usable.
