is it possible to upholster a vinyl arm chair? husband's hideous green arm chair from the salvos desperately needs a revival, but i'm too scared to tackle it..
Does anyone have a recommendation for a place or person to upholster my Eames office chair? I'm in Los Angeles so I'm assuming there will be a few people through AT who have used a decent upholsterer. Happy to hear your thoughts.
i don't know if i've ever said anything negative on AT before, but if I had an Eames (replica or original) I'd redo it in a classic material.
So many great projects. I would love to share one, too. One of our clients was giving an old sofa and two arm chairs to her son. We streamlined the design and reupholstered them for his space. He loved the result. http://pollinsofnapa.blogspot.com/2011/09/changing-shape-of-furniture.html
Thank you poster #1 for correcting the punctuation on the title "Befores & Afters". As soon as I read it, I knew it was an error & wanted to post until I read yours.
Okay, admittedly I may be purist .... but since you got an Eames-ish chair at such a bargain price, why not spend a bit (or more than a bit) more and redo it in (black/tan/off white) leather?
Houndstooth checks on that chair are like pin stripes and flames on a Ferrari.
To those who are opposed to the idea of the houndstooth on the replica Eames recliner, the owner is my brother and he actually already has a nice one upholstered in leather. He felt that his house was needing more pattern, and he didn't want to put patterned fabric on his sofa, so the chair seemed like a nice smaller piece to change up. This chair really adds a quirky touch to his mostly solid-color-decorated-living-room and everyone who visits just loves it.
I remember how controversial his chair was when it was posted. Like people can't have fun with the furniture they own because there are some sort of unspoken rules as to what is appropriate and not (especially when dealing with such a popular chair).
