If the standard television console or stand aren't cutting it and you're looking for something with a historical flavor to it, or if your name happens to be Howard Hughes, these Restoration Hardware TV consoles might tickle your retro-style loving fancy...
The Richards' Metal Media Trunk, Richards' Canvas Media Trunk, and Mayfair Steamer Media Trunk all harken to an era of streamliners and the Spruce Goose. But instead of holding all your finest duds, these trunks were designed to be topped with the latest and greatest in display technology.
Details like 3,000 hand-hammered brass nailheads and two levels of canvas-lined storage for media components with leather pull handles are what you get for the $2035-$2695 price tag. At that price, you might as well pack these up for a trip somewhere instead of just watching travel shows in HD!
We're still holding out on the dream of working from one of these oversized trunk home offices with all the matching accessories.

I love all of the aluminum pieces in the current RH collection, including these steam trunk coffee tables/TV stands. Problem is they cost a FORTUNE! Craig's List to the rescue: found a legit 1920's steam trunk for $50 with all of the original hardware and locks, including a big brass key! It even has a good number of the old luggage stickers, with one from the old Queen Mary!
While it doesn't have the nice drawers and it a little short for a TV stand and a little tall for a coffee table, it's tough to beat the price and the old school feel.
I just bought a metal trunk off Craigslist to use as a tv stand. It's battered, painted turquoise, and has markings on it from all the journeys it's been on. I am absolutely in love with it.
I snapped it up for $35, 12 minutes after it was listed. When I picked it up, the owner said she'd had so many calls for it offering outrageous prices, she'd had to take the listing down. Booyeah! :)
