Restoration Hardware knows how to throw a party. For a while I've been keeping tabs on the progress of their new location in Houston's Highland Village, and this Thursday night patience was finally rewarded when the store was opened to (select members of) the general public. On behalf of Apartment Therapy, I was there to scope it out.
My friends were confused when I told them I was going to a party at a furniture store. But this is no ordinary furniture store. It is 25,000 square feet of vignettes designed to wow you at every turn. Imagine a giant manor house plunked down in the middle of metro Houston. Sort of like a zoo for furniture, where you can see all the pieces in their natural setting.
Also visible in their natural setting, on this particular evening, were the cream of Houston society, bedecked in furs and sipping bellinis by Cipriani while listening to music by Swedish band Lykke Li. I wandered about, taking in the roof deck, the caged chandeliers, and the overwhelmingly comprehensive selection of teas. I had a lovely evening, and also came to an important realization: I would buy a lot more furniture if every store I went to served free drinks.

Oooh, I'm going to have to look forward to this becoming a venue for galas and events down here! Also, so happy to see a Houston post!
I hope the store is 100X better than their catalog. In the photos, no color what so ever and everything was brown and beige. Horrid. Complete turn off.
It looks like Hogwarts
Why am I not shocked and amazed the Houston store is 35 freakin' hundred square feet? You know what they say about Texas! If nothing else, living away from it has given me some perspective...BTW, Speck's - I love you and miss you.
It's good that the store is huge. The furniture is too.
@ Lauriebird - Spec's! I swear by them. You can find absolutely anything there.
Well I was there this weekend. Have to say the store is beautiful, but not PRACTICAL! Houston with a roof deck that faces WEST! Those from California execs "what were you thinking?". It was already hot in November!
Now to the real issue Restoration Hardware wants to be a "Gallery" really? So all you customers out there in Houston be prepared there is nothing in STOCK! And typical Restoration Hardware they still have their huge issues with delivery and the quality control SERIOUS PROBLEMS!
But hey go take a look if you would like to enjoy pretties because you ain't getting anything soon from this store.
Oh by the way the second floor is "WAY TO DARK!"
