Restoration Hardware knows how to throw a party. For a while I've been keeping tabs on the progress of their new location in Houston's Highland Village, and this Thursday night patience was finally rewarded when the store was opened to (select members of) the general public. On behalf of Apartment Therapy, I was there to scope it out.
My friends were confused when I told them I was going to a party at a furniture store. But this is no ordinary furniture store. It is 25,000 square feet of vignettes designed to wow you at every turn. Imagine a giant manor house plunked down in the middle of metro Houston. Sort of like a zoo for furniture, where you can see all the pieces in their natural setting.
Also visible in their natural setting, on this particular evening, were the cream of Houston society, bedecked in furs and sipping bellinis by Cipriani while listening to music by Swedish band Lykke Li. I wandered about, taking in the roof deck, the caged chandeliers, and the overwhelmingly comprehensive selection of teas. I had a lovely evening, and also came to an important realization: I would buy a lot more furniture if every store I went to served free drinks.
