saguatuck is one of my favorite places! (and home of the best coffee ever at uncommon grounds) we used to live in sw michigan and the 'coast' is a treasure trove of amazing antique shops and restaurants. i've actually never spotted this place, but looks wonderful. i've got of other places to recommend if you're up for another trip!

Three Oaks, Michigan, 49128 has a bunch of cool shops/galleries, etc.

IPSO facto is one of my favorites.Brandon Nelson has an amazing eye..many types of things you'd see at Architectural Artifacts, or saw someone leaving Sandwich Antiques market with, and wished you'd seen - 1st.

aron Packer has a gallery up there, in a fmr. Butcher Shop.

The blue Gallery has some nice 3-D and 2-d works

Springdale has just about every piece of Heywood -Wakefield you'll ever know that was mfg.

Ray has a great eye- for everything..... from Antique Chinese School Benches (which, is in my living room!) - to sideshow-esque oddities (which are NOT in my living room).
He's on the Blue Arrow Highway (856).

Question - are most of theseplaces open on Sundays? I'd assume they are to take advantage of the tourist/day tipper trade, but you never know.

Most of them are indeed open on weekends and will usually accomidate you by a personal showing if you're serious and can't make it during store hours.

Since I'm a Detroit dweller, Vertu in Royal Oak Michigan is not only closer to my neck of the woods but they have a more discriminating eye which yields some great mid century finds.

another great place is red arrow highway in the new buffalo/lakeside/harbert area, which is just about an hour from the city. lakeside antiques has some amazing (but expensive) furniture. definitely stop in a lovell & whyte. with some determination, we've found some great stuff at dunes antique center in sawyer. it's a wonderful area to spend a day exploring. . .joe jackson's market should be up and running with tons of fresh fruit and the sawyer garden center is also a great stop. if you do head out to three oaks and happen to be around in the evening, catch an indie movie at the vickers theatre. and of course, with all that shopping, you're sure to be hungry! i'd highly recommend brewsters in new buffalo and cafe gulistan in harbert. st. joseph is about 20 mins. north of that area, but (in my humble opinion) is the most amazing place to watch the sunset from. if you go, say hello to our old house on state street for us ;) looking forward to an update on your next trip!

I can't resist mentioning two great place to eat in the area (where my guy and I honeymooned last October). We're headed up to Beulah, Michigan, for vacation next week and will be making stops at both of these treasures either on the approach or the return!

Oh wow, the Journeyman is amazing! Breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They have great, warm service, and possibly the best bread I have ever had in my life - seedy salt bread, which may be the ideal bread for sour cherry spreads. In Fennville, it's a short and lovely drive from Douglas/Saugatuck.

Finally, if you're staying overnight, the guys who run the Pines Motor Lodge are wonderful. We holed up at one of their cottages and had a lovely time.
