Reuse Paper To Make Decorative Baskets

Flickr Finds

Although I'm certainly not against recycling our paper, I'm always game for getting a little more use out of it. While cruising through Flickr this week I noticed a trend in the world of paper recycling: basket weaving!

Once I started really paying attention to what was on my screen, I noticed that all three of the baskets that caught my attention happened to be from the same artist! Go figure! Metal and Thread out of Brooklyn, NY have been hard at work using reclaimed materials to create for quite some time.

Although I won't be trying out any of their master jeweler or metal work any time soon, I think I might have a shot of recreating these woven baskets on my own. After folding long strips of paper to create the weaving material, it should be like any other woven item. You could even use the same method as these jute baskets from yesterday (the cooler and pins to keep things in place) before securing them at the top.

Check out more of Metal and Thread from their online store or blog.
