We've seen some clever repurposing of old cribs and baby gates in the home and bringing them outside makes perfect sense. The framework of both crib slats and gates is very similar to garden trellises that you can buy, so why not use what you have instead.
Above are just five examples I found online of baby gear reuse in the garden and there are plenty more. Have you tried this?

Hmmm, I can get behind the reuse in the 2nd-5th photo, but that first one just looks like a crib in a garden. It's too obvious for my taste.
The last photo is the only one that doesn't look like junk in the yard.
Ew. Who wants to be the house on the street with garbage in their yard? Might as well park an old car on the lawn and have a tankless toilet out there, too.
Sure, the first one is sort of literal but I love the idea of repurposing cribs. I'm sure they would look different once the plants actually start crawling up. I use old bike wheels for my morning glories and it looks pretty cool.
Sure, some of these could have been more artfully done, but I like the basic idea. And I'm in no position to judge. The trellis on my balcony is just a wood frame with string that I tied myself. It's doing the job though - quite well.
Ughhh. Why no old bathtub or toilet planter?
Somehow I feel like a crib--unless it's a recall--is better recycled as a donation to a single mother in need or to a shelter or daycare facility.
The first picture is somewhat creepy. It's like some kind of shrine?
I agree with the above comment ... that someone probably could have really used that crib. And it's just going to rot being in the ground like that. Rather than a good re-use, it seems like a terrible waste to me.
I thought cribs weren't supposed to be reused/donated for safety reasons? I found this article saying it's actually illegal for most: http://www.mlive.com/news/muskegon/index.ssf/2011/08/reselling_donating_old_cribs_n.html
@Foodlovah, most cribs older than two or three have drop sides (many of which had recalls) and you are not allowed to pass them on, and are illegal to use in daycare etc starting next year.
Good idea, but too bad none of these look good.
Seems like a good way to put them to good use, especially since you can't donate them. And when they are covered with greenery they won't look like someone just stuck a crib in the yard.
Reminds me of those "flower beds" people put up - an old bed frame sunk into the ground with annuals planted inside. Ugh. No thanks.
I've tried this in my garden, and it works for me.

It reminds me of an old country cemetery where the infant graves would have "cot" like sides - spooky and creepy.
great use for a crib.
at least the crib is not in the dump.
