Not a new topic, but one that deserves revisiting: decorating or painting the refrigerator. Not something everyone can do or wants to do, but when done can be a real treat for the eye and an amazing way to give some graphic and unexpected pops of color in the kitchen.
We spotted this painted fridge in a house tour we photographed last week in Austin, Texas, that will be debuting this week (so keep on checking Apartment Therapy loyally like you always do). We were so blown away by this blank-refridgerator-as-canvas art we just had to include it for inspiration.
Of course, the homeowner happens to be an extremely talented professional painter, but that shouldn't stop anyone wishing to flex their artistic muscles on their kitchen appliances. It's just such an unexpected, fun and fresh take on the usual painting a solid color or using chalkboard paint; we were really delighted by this art in the kitchen find. Would you ever tackle painting art on your fridge? What would your subject matter be if you decided to use your fridge as a canvas?

That's cool! I kind of want to paint ours with chalkboard paint, since it's the only appliance we haven't replaced yet in our budget kitchen.
I'm torn ... in our house, the fridge (why is there a "d" in "fridge" but not "refrigerator"?) is a collector of magnet-held detritus, so to my eyes, painting the front to look like the stuff on the shelves inside would only serve to make the whole room look more cluttery.
On the other hand, embellishment is cool. Maybe I'd go with something obviously not-clutter, like Zuul's pyramid-lair in the clouds
My friend painted her refrigerator back in the late 60s. She did an amazing job--very Peter Max-ish.
that's pretty cool! my fridge is covered in pictures of friends and family, art, & anything i find inspiring.
I'm always surprised to see that so many house tours on here have NOTHING on the refrigerator. It looks nice, but I find myself wondering if their fridge is really that bare or if they just hid everything on it for pictures. I love looking at peoples fridges, it usually tells a lot about people.
I get the appeal, but I think it makes the room look very cluttered, especially with the amount of stuff magnet'ed onto the side of the fridge. Not for me.
LOL @Proboscidea! Go. for. it.
