Everything old is new again, isn't that true? Well it certainly seems to be the case with children's books and Richard Scarry's Best Storybook Ever.
This children's book anthology features children's stories by Patricia Scarry, Richard Scarry and a few others and all are beautifully illustrated by Richard Scarry.

Anthropomorphic animals run rampant in stories set everywhere from Paris, London, Algeria to a tiny hollow in a tree.

What we love most about this book is that it instantly takes us back to our childhood. We read about tiny mice falling in love and getting married; zoo animals who act out the months of the years; jewel thieves in Paris who hide from policemen in a pot of soup...

The book contains over 80 stories and poems, so you can keep this one next to the bed for a long time.

I grew up on Scarry's stuff and have been wanting to dig through my parents' attic to find my old books for when my daughter is born. This really brings me back and makes me want to start digging sooner rather than later.
This was one of my favorite authors as a child. I have Richard Scarry's Giant Storybook Treasury, and my children love to look at all the wonderful illustrations and have me read the stories. Not as widely known as Dr. Seuss or Eric Carle, but one of my top 5!
I remember loving this book as a child, and I recently bought a used copy from Amazon for my daughter. It's in heavy rotation at our house right now.
ah! these pictures bring back so many fond memories. I'm ordering a book right now.
This was one of my very favorites from my childhood and thankfully my mother saved it for my own kids. We've had hours of enjoyment reading it and I love finding them reading it to themselves and poring over the illustrations. We've enjoyed not just this one, but his whole collection. Must haves for any kids book collection.
My toddler son used to study his Richard Scarry Best Ever Word book like he was cramming for exams. The cover came off from all the use. At a very young stage, he was freaked out by the scenes of mayhem that were supposed to be funny in another Scarry book, featuring car accidents and crashes of all variety.
this was my favorite book when i was a kid & i found one at the flea market the other day for $1. my daughter who is 3 loves it & asks me to read her my favorite book. i am so happy to do so.
my mom has been collecting the Calico Critters for her & looking at them I see such a resemblance to the characters in the book that I wonder if the book is an inspiration for the creators of Calico Critters.
anyone know?
love this book, i still have mine from when i was a child alas my sisters ripped out half the book, so when i had my son i immediately set search for a "new" vintage copy as I wanted the exact same year print that I had. And I found it on ebay. of course you could also try :

One of my favorite things about going to my Grandmother's house as a kid was reading her Richard Scarry books.
That and the cookies.
Funny--I just picked this up at a thrift store... for myself! I love Scarry books as well. I believe he studied the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Richard Scarry's Cars and Trucks and Things that Go is part of my standard baby gift of books. And yeah, my husband and I still go through it before handing it off to see who can find Goldbug first. :)
