With the beginning of school approaching (time flies!), you might be wanting to plan some last minute events with the kids to bid farewell to summer. How about a road trip? Better yet, how about a road trip visiting some of the fun, kitschy roadside attractions that have been around for decades. You might just have one near you!

As a lover of all things retro and kitsch, I was thrilled to find out that a perfect example of vintage roadside America was only a drive away from our house. We promptly planned a trip to the Wigwam Hotel in Cave City, Kentucky this summer and it was one of the funnest experiences we've had as a family.
These are some great resources to get you started if you're looking for a fun, retro road trip as this:

I talk more about our family road trip here and here. You can also read here to learn more about other kitschy roadside attractions across America.

You're only a drive away from Cave City?? That's my childhood stomping grounds! In fact, I was just there this past weekend, perusing the awesome farmer stands that spring up on Saturdays. I picked up squashes, new potatoes, tree-ripened peaches, and two quarts of amazingly juicy blackberries!
We have a few fun roadside attractions here in the Hudson Valley, including the world's largest kaleidoscope and the world's second largest garden gnome (his name is Chomsky!)
We blog about our family's visits to see the world's largest whatevers at http://GoBIGorGoHomeBlog.com!
