- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love that everything in it (except for the bed) was found secondhand. I am really proud of the decorative painting, which I designed and painted myself. I haunt flea markets, auctions, and thrift shops to find things that are classic, clean-lined, and striking. My bedroom is the result of years of those unexpected and very affordable discoveries.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- 1. Have an overall vision that you want to achieve, and work toward it as your budget allows.
2. Make it warm and welcoming. Like it or not, your bedroom is seen as an extension of yourself. You don't want people to see it and rethink their opinions of you!
3. Make it comfortable-- splurge for good sheets, supportive pillows, and the right mattress!
4. Accept that if you have pets, it will be their bedroom too. Don't get freaked out if your furry friends want up on the bed.
5. A restful bedroom should help you relax-- so keep the TV and the computer somewhere else!
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- I use my bedroom as a place to rest, relax and read. Books are a big part of my life, so I wanted a room where I could delve into these other worlds and not be distracted. I deliberately chose to exile my computer and television to other rooms-- that way I can focus on the things a proper bedroom is good for: resting, reading, and being loved.

Wow wow wow!
Totally impressed!
Totally not my choice of colors but I am incredible awestruck.
I love the neoclassical look, and I especially appreciate that it wasn't falsely aged. It looks crisp yet warm, and surprisingly relaxing. Very different from current trends, and that is a great reminder to decorate for your own interests. Love it.
Gorgeous, manly, inviting, warm, and relaxing. Great job!
I am normally someone who thinks any kind of stenciled on pattern border is about the tackiest thing a person can do to their home, but you've done an amazing job with this! I am still a forever enemy of bland wall quotes in random places, but this is stunning.
i need to take your advice about an overall vision. i want to stencil my walls but i'm pretty wishy-washy and can never commit and there's one Wary Meyers bedroom picture i've been agonizing over for months.
This room is very masculine and classic without the hunter green and duck decoys and all that jazz
.
This is SO different from what we normally see here - and I love it because of that! Great job channeling your interests and your tastes into a totally unique space :)
Whoa!
You did an AMAZING job with the walls. It looks beautiful!
It's so nice to see a change in style around here.
Excellent use of Classical motifs and colors! Charming rather than campy. I love it.
Love this!
It just goes to show you how people have different concepts of what is exciting, relaxing, or whatever. I see this bedroom and I am dizzy and overwhelmed. Retreat is the last thing I am thinking, but as a study, it would be awesome!
This is so gorgeous I want to copy every detail. I love the way he has used scale to create a room that combines elegance and comfort. I love pumpkin but have always shied away from it, fearing I would tire of it, but Robb' s restraint allows a joyous note to enter the room without overwhelming the room.
All I can Say is Elginites Rock! Nice Job. Love the colors.
Symmetry with a classical theme, though not for everyone, is both timelessly elegant and soothing. Well done.
Looks like a museum,
House tour, please!
This is wonderful.
I. Want. That. Bed.
What a wonderful room! I gotta ask--are you a classics professor? Where did you get your art pieces?
I agree with KFair, it would make a great study but who has a room to spare for that? I give you massive kudos for going your own way and the impeccable restraint you showed with the borders.
This is so unique!
Yes, please, a house tour!
I love this room. The furniture is absolutely gorgeous. I love it when people decorate to their own tastes instead of following trends. I think that if you do what you love, it will always look fabulous.
This is so striking. I would have never thought to decorate a room like this, but I absolutely love it.
Thanks for the kind words, Spencer! I'm not a classics professor, although I did study them in college and continue to read whatever I can.
I got the art from an assortment of places like eBay, estate sales, and local auctions. The pottery pieces are tourist reproductions that are available online from a number of places. They can be a bit pricey if you buy them new, but you can sometimes find a piece here or there at garage sales or flea markets for a really good price.
The bed, for those who want one like it, was made by Thomasville. I don't know if they still carry that design. I bought it several years ago, so it may be discontinued by now.
Absolutely Gorgeous! I wouldn't change a thing!
Not something I would do, but it's a nice room and I love the color choices. I would reconsider the furniture. The placement of those chairs on either side of the bed looks like you each have a time out corner when you're having a disagreeable evening. I would probably put them both on the far right, flanking that little side table. Then it would be nice seating arrangement for coffee/tea and some reading.
How often do we see something that's totally different here on AT? Just about never. Kudos, Robb! Unexpected and unique.
Wonderfully classical, very manly. I enjoy its boldness. I also enjoy the irony of your living in a place called Elgin and being such a fan of Greek art.... : )
I just can't over the beauty of this bedroom. I look at it everyday. I wish Robb could do my bedroom and living room.
Its so formal but that color takes the overall classical theme from looking like a museum or a library. Nice job, Robb. You've got great vision.
