- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love that it's eclectic and vibrant but still relaxing. For being a small space (11' X 11' - 132 sq ft) it doesn't feel cramped. The use of pattern, texture, color and fun accessories helps to pull your eye around the space and keeps things interesting. It's a great place to relax during the day, read, listen to music and of course, for sleeping.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- In a small space it's important that the furniture that is used is functional from a storage and organization standpoint. Being able to have everything that you don't want seen tucked away helps to create a soothing and relaxing space where you can decompress without distractions. Use music and lighting to enhance or change the ambiance of the bedroom space and block out unwanted interference. For lighting control, on days when you want to sleep in, having proper curtains or blinds to block out light is also key.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- Having a seating area, even in a small bedroom like this, is important because it makes it a destination for more than sleeping. The lighting in this room plays a big role in its use. We've installed Phillips HUE light bulbs which we can control with the touch of a button to create the perfect atmosphere for reading or relaxing or whatever.

I've never seen so much Ikea in one place! But it looks nice. Very cozy!
Wow, 99% IKEA! Looks great, but it's nice when you can't identify every single piece at first glance!
OMG I love this one!!!! I never knew Ikea could look so good. Frankly, I would have never even known things were from there but either way, it looks fab!
When I make more money I will invest in nicer thing. "Work with what you've got" is my motto.
I also like the use of Ikea :)
But I was wondering where those lights came from - I can't tell if they are hardwired and if they are not, does anyone know where they came from?
Rob do not feel bad about working with you have. What you've done is great. The only people who know the majority of it came from Ikea are those who shop there themselves, thus not in a position to point fingers. Ive never been to Ikea so I have no idea and I think it looks good and you made it look designer.
Looks great!!
Millions of people all over the world shop Ikea, myself included.People "hack"it on a regular basis as well. There is nothing wrong with affordable style.Rob has made 11x11 look great Even though small and with dark colors used, this room is impressive and not oppressive. Great job.
Beautiful! I love the shelves over the bed - this is a great space.
Love the bright apple greens against the dark brown.
Rob,
I do fancy your room, and that damn dog of yours is soooo cute!!!
Good job. Not many could pull this off. Excellent.
Love the hanging lights. Your room is both masculine but a female can also appreciate the versatility of this room! Great job for creating a room that's not necessarily gender specific but comfortable and relaxing!
p.s. I have the same Ikea duvet. I wondered about purchasing it, but wanted that "textured" wrinkled linen look. I now find that I'm less than happy with the closure...the envelope "flap" on the inside crinkles like an accordion and always looks messy. Also the button holes finishings are shamelessly cheap and barely there. One of my pillow cases was sewed incorrectly off the bias and is always a little off kilter. I should have returned it, but once washed could not be returned by Ikea. Unfortunately I washed mine out of the bag and it had been pressed so the bias mistake would not show.
Rob,
I can't message you, but I am dying to know if your room was inspired by the Twin Cities Ikea store. If you prefer, I can give you my e-mail to respond.
I will just say I am thrilled by your room!
This is very well done. Only because I visit Ikea often, did I recognize many of the items used.
It's a bit busy for my liking but it's nice all the same.
Hi Raven- yes! We had seen that room so many times and loved it. With two people having a say in the design it was great to see a solution we could both agree on. We had used the bamboo panels from Ikea in two other spaces on the wall and ceiling and it was so easy to work with it. Love that stuff as wall covering.
This is nice...I haven't been to Ikea in several years and never would've guessed! I immediately thought it was expensive designer stuff. The room seems very restful & I like the textures and the spots of colors...very different from my taste but I like this.
I'm a designer there, and that was one of my rooms. Our goal is to inspire, and it's so awesome to know that we're successful. I'm rooting for you, for sure!
It's cool that you added the tree patterned curtains. It's an unexpected twist, I love the graphic pattern.
Looks very inviting , and serene! Love all the different textures and colors.Great job!
That's awesome Raven. Well, you obviously succeeded. Hats off to you! Head over to my blog and check out some of my interior projects. Ideasrealized.wordpress.com... maybe I can return the gift of inspiration.
Thanks! I'm checking out your blog, and spreading the word about your entry!
