In this age of digital downloads and MP3 players, the concept of single tracks being distributed on vinyl discs seems incredible – which explains why 45's are a product of yesteryear. But wait - vinyl's not dead yet! Gin Art is giving a new spin to these musical discs…

It's kind of sad to see the technology of yesteryear languishing in flea markets and auctions. So it's always nice to see new, inventive uses for old stuff. Or, as designer Orlando Dominguez says with his 45 Lamps, "putting a new spin on sustainability".
Dominguez's lamps are made with reclaimed 45 Records, colored plexiglass, and painted wood ring spacers. The lamps are topped off with either a black or white paper shade and a wood finial. The 45 Lamps are available by special order.

Vinyl records aren't going anywhere. Lots of people prefer them to digital formats.
If you get these lamps, you'll need a serious feather duster.
My heart breaks when I see stuff like this but that's simply because these 45's remind me of my childhood. BUT..glad to see that they are being upcycled and not tossed into the landfills.
The proportion of the shade to base is killing me. The shade needs to be 2" - 4" bigger in diameter. Otherwise, I love the idea.
Poor vinyl records, I could have had those.. to listen to music that sounds better than CD
Nice but I imagine them getting very dusty and difficult to keep clean.
I agree with Polly. We have a turntable with over 100 albums on vinyl, both modern and 'vintage', that we play most evenings after work and on the weekends.
That being said, 45s are a pain and I think reusing them in these lamps is brilliant.
Maybe if the records were completely trashed...but
45's sound amazing, especially these new releases from Analouge Productions...I've got Getz/Gilberto, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong all on 200 gram virgin vinyl...These albums sound amazing!!! 45's are higher fidelity than 33 1/3 records...But lets be honest all vinyl records are awesome
