"Design is a catalyst for change," according to Knoend's website—and we couldn't agree more. The San Francisco-based firm (pronounced, appropriately, "no end") is the brainchild of Ivy Chuang, who combines her experience in computer design, furniture-marking and sculpture into eco-friendly statements inspired by her extensive travels.
We were particularly taken with the Fava Rocker (shown), an ingenius perch sure to sooth the wearied bods of new moms. The piece is made of FSC-certified pre-finished maple plywood, finished with light linseed oil, and an organic cotton cushion, which is available in green, chocolate and orange.
Chuang is so dedicated to eco-design from start to finish that all of Knoend's products include a recycled-paper manual. "Through all her endeavors, she hopes to develop design that is intelligent, emotionally compelling, innately sustainable, and culturally relevant," as it says on the website, and surely the collection accomplishes just that.
