- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- We don't get a lot of light in our apartment, so I tried to keep the colors very vibrant for those dark gray, rainy days - especially in winter. I know most people like "soothing" colors in the bedroom, but with 2 small kids, I never seem to have any problem falling asleep at the end of the day!
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- I usually tell people to try to keep the clutter to a minimum in the bedroom. And the simplest trick I've ever found for keeping my bedroom neat is to try to remove objects that seem to attract clothing like a magnet (sorry, elliptical machine!). And keep your closet door closed! It makes a big difference.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- I work a lot at the desk in our bedroom. It's the only kid-free zone in the house where I can go for a grown-up time out when things get hectic. So it really is a retreat in the literal sense of the word!

Hasn't this bedroom been featured before? I loved it than and I still love it now. The bright pink with the rococo headboard is really striking.
Yes, it has been, well at least the shot of the bed. I have a pic of it saved in my inspiration file! Its gotta be in the top five of my all time favorite bedrooms! I LOVE the headboard!
This room has a fearless use of color and a definite sense of personal style. Makes me want to get to know the residents, who seem like they would be cheerful people. Like this a lot.
I agree! This is one of the few vibrant bedrooms I like. I particularly like the hot pink duvet cover and that yellow gold upholstered bench. Love the bed, too! And the pendant! So many things to like :) I Wonder what color paint she used?
Love the room but I would stack the books up the wall not under the bench. Love the room though.
Would you share where you got the low cabinets on casters? Those are great.
Love the room, its so vibrant and cheerful
I want to live here! Absolutely love the colors, the headboard, the stacks of books everywhere, the gallery wall, the metal light fixture (we have two of the same in our kitchen!)... please do a full house tour!
FUN!!!
Totally not my taste or colors -- and I still really like it. A+ for imagination and verve :)
Voted for you in Room for Color, and I'm voting for you now! This room has always stuck with me!
Mercy! That photo of the covetable mustard bench and hot pink duvet has been a favorite of mine from Pinterest, and I'm thrilled to see the rest of the room. Very fun and lively.
Just wonderful. I would love a close up view of the gallery wall.
Ha, yeah this has definitely been featured before! But I still love it.
I LOVE it. but not the piece on the headboard. if it weren't there this would be one of my top 5 bedrooms ever.
this room made me smile, buckets of character, love it
Yeah, I'm totally getting all the mileage out of this bedroom that I can! Thanks to Apartment Therapy for letting me enter it again! I swear it's the last time... Now if I could just get my clients to let me enter THEIR rooms here! ;-)
Nice to see a fellow St. Louis resident featured. I'm just a a couple miles down the road. If you get a chance, check out my blog: midcenturymidwest.blogspot.com
Where did you get the ceiling lamp shade? It's gorgeous!
Cool! I just started a design blog too ( www.theaedis.com ). I'm still kind of trying to find my voice out in the blogoshpere, but I do want to talk specifically about local design when I can! It's funny that you write about midcentury design here...When I moved to St. Louis a little over a year ago, I thought that Missouri had just skipped midcentury design altogether. After living in Los Angeles and Austin, where it's really celebrated, it was hard to move somewhere where you have to really look hard to find it. I 'll definitely start reading you!
Yangh, it was from Cost Plus (I know...Surprising right?). I answered a bunch of other questions about this room in the comments of my house tour too if that helps anyone... http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/rohdes-opportunistic-design-laboratory-house-tour-174896?utm_campaign=topblock&utm_medium=web&utm_source=main-tour

Ok, no clue why that TRIPLE posted...Sorry!
Hey Rhode! I was wondering if you were going to enter your room in this comp and was hoping also. You know I was for you in the "Room for Color" and I hope you the best in this one. Still the greatest room EVER!
@nickarmadillo: I'll definitely have to check out your blog! What are some of your favorite places to shop for MCM? I'm loving the Green Shag Market right now, especially since they're right down the street from me.
Thanks Charisse! There are waaay better rooms in this contest though! I was hesitant to even enter, but I figured why not. It's fun. Thanks again for the kind words.
I haunt Treasure Aisle and the Green Shag. I also like Rocket Century's store, but it isn't the place to go for deals. I'm always on the lookout for pieces from the 70's...which are much less popular around here. Mr. Modtomic just opened a store in St. Charles too but I haven't checked it out yet... Shopping for modern stuff is really a struggle around here. Thank God for the interwebs.
My favorite colors!! And I love all the art in your bedroom. I like the books stored under the bench, and might steal that, but I'd put the spines facing out so that I can find them. Was there a design reason you chose to put them backwards? (hmmm. Might not be a bad way to store "bedroom books" you don't want you mother to see)
I even like your work space, and I'm a die hard No Work Zone in the Bedroom kind of person.
great job!
LOVE this room! Its totally the room I'd have if I were a single-girl :)
There are a few pockets of it here and there. St. Louis has a very tight-knit mid-mod community and most of the collectors know each other and meet up pretty regularly. Glad to know that there is another one out there who appreciates good design.
Most of my stuff actually comes out of city alleyways and thrift shops, though I've noticed that as MCM has become more popular things are getting much, much harder to find.
Agree with tetegrondona, I'm not sure about the piece above the headboard.. the picture wall is really cool! and boy, I thought I like bold colors, yours blew me away.
Eclectic feminine and fun -great bedroom!
Good luck!

This room is an all time favorite of mine. You get my vote. I love the fearlessness. Totally colorful and bohemian feeling.
I live in St. Louis as well and I was wondering/HOPING if you got the yellow bench at the foot of the bed somewhere in the area or if I could come buy it off you!
Still my favorite bedroom ever! Hot pink and mustard wins my vote every time.
Sorry zimmatic101, I found that bench out on a curb if you can believe it, when I was living in Los Angeles...And I'm so into the mustard and fuchsia color combo right now you'd probably have to pry it from my cold dead hands! ;-)
What type of chair is the wire chair by the desk? I love it.
Wow LOVE this room. Love so much about it from the bed, to the piece above the bed, the objects around the room. It popped instantly when I saw it. Also love the art gallery wall. Beautiful. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the books at the end of the bed under the bench - reason for this? I would imagine they would get dusty there and it's not good for their care.
@alainnotebook - I've had several people ask about that. I have them down there because the bedroom is right at the top of the stairs, so you can see under the bed as you come up. And I hated being able to see all of the stuff I have stored under it every time I entered the room. So the books block that view. And they're turned around to make them more visually unified. I've read them all anyway, so I really don't need to get to a particular book very often. The dust isn't bad either, I just sweep around them when I do the floor.
@Wendi255 - It's a vintage Bertoia side chair
The picture, straight way to the bed wall is amazing!!!
This room has been one of my favorites ever since the house tour! You go ahead and milk it in every contest, Rohde, and I'll vote for you every time!
I love this bedroom. It was great elements of warmth, excitement and comfort
The headboard is beyond amazing. Love the neon pink bedding too. awesome!
