Romantic All-White Rooms

An all-white décor is impractical. It’s idealistic. It’s cold and unforgiving. There is no “flair” or “drama” or shocking pops of color. Yet what I love about these images is the escapism, the thought that maybe someday I could live in a bright, all-white home where nary a dust bunny or newspaper smudge appears.

What these rooms lack in color they make up for in comfort, warmth and style. There is a balance and harmony in the various textures, and there is a lived-in quality that suggests a relaxed and calm space. The benefit to having the whole room in one color is the play of light: as light travels through the space shadows and reflection actually change the color of the objects. Another great benefit to a singular color is that mismatched items from different time periods blend seamlessly and can unify a previously inconsistent style.

Some call it shabby chic, others call it flea market style. Whatever it is, I think these dreamy photos are lovely little glimpses into a world that is not mine but one that I can live vicariously through. Check out the blogs mentioned below for more whitewashed and vintage inspiration.
