What these rooms lack in color they make up for in comfort, warmth and style. There is a balance and harmony in the various textures, and there is a lived-in quality that suggests a relaxed and calm space. The benefit to having the whole room in one color is the play of light: as light travels through the space shadows and reflection actually change the color of the objects. Another great benefit to a singular color is that mismatched items from different time periods blend seamlessly and can unify a previously inconsistent style.
Some call it shabby chic, others call it flea market style. Whatever it is, I think these dreamy photos are lovely little glimpses into a world that is not mine but one that I can live vicariously through. Check out the blogs mentioned below for more whitewashed and vintage inspiration.

I love white but due to 3 monster leaving in my home can not use it very much. I try to make up for it in lots of accents and accessories but in reality white color can not be very much used in homes invaded by kids.
Just can't go wrong with white. Clean, bright... makes any room feel a bit modern.
Ahhh, the dream. And during these dark and dreary days, the idea of the bright lightness of a white room; it could be exactly what I've been looking for to trade my children in on...
I have white loose covers on my sofa and armchairs (bought in the States, terrific value), and the difference since my 18 yr old son moved out is remarkable. He just had the uncanny knack of making them (well, the one he sat on) look grubby, now they always look clean!!
