Roof Deck Envy

Roof Deck Envy

When we were searching for an apartment, we put outdoor space very high on our list of priorities. It didn't matter if it was just a small deck on which to grow some plants and step onto for a breath of fresh air. Well, a small deck is what we got, just large enough for some potted plants and a standing adult. We've been eyeing our neighbors' roof decks, green with envy, ever since...

Although Hong Kong summers are very hot and very humid, there is something about the season that calls for some outdoor living. Some residents of top floor apartments are lucky enough to have exclusive use of a roof deck above, giving them the chance to create an outdoor refuge, just steps from their front door. The roof deck I visited today has been lovingly furnished and planted by a long time Hong Kong resident, creating a little piece of paradise within the chaos of the city.

Seeing up close what we're missing, our list of priorities hasn't changed much, but now it includes living on the top floor.
