Color Inspiration: I'm a painter living in the Richmond District of San Francisco. We are lucky to have south and west facing windows that look out to the ocean on a clear and sunny day. We also have views of the bright homes...

Color Inspiration continued: ...of this city out the window, the orange Muni buses, and the guy that lives across the street owns just about a dozen vintage cars that come in all the colors i love.
I look into the living room from my studio every day, and so its important that it works for me visually otherwise inspiration gets sour. It evolves as the color palette of my artwork evolves almost daily. Accessories change, but we wanted our Bay window nook to feel open, to invite the sun inside and to give us a feeling of openness where maybe the ocean might meet the sky. I actually had the folks at Benjamin Moore Paint mix this color for me, it was a lightened blue/green with a touch of yellow in it.
Colors Used: Benjamin Moore - custom mix. A lightened mixture of blue, green and a touch of yellow.
Color Tip: Be bold, and either go for contrasting color combinations, or a harmony or range of a few colors. I switch it up with accesories and sometimes our room is all shades of blue and green, or i punch in some rusty orange pillows to set the wall off.

What I can see in the room looks very nice. I just wish I could see more of the room/walls etc. Photos all seem to be showcasing the furniture and floor.
man, good job w/ the tucking on that slip cover!
Love the rug and the lighting.
I love it. It makes me feel at home. The wall color is not my taste, but the colors in the furniture and accents do it for me.
I like how comfortable and eclectic it is, the color palette is great. Shows you don't have to have pricey furniture to have some style. It's too bad you can't really see the wall color in the photos, though.
thanks everyone...this room is definitely a work in progress for us. We just got married this year and are having to work with some old furniture. I'll be posting more "in-progress" shots as time goes by.
We chose not to photograph the height of the ceiling as we still have our rental blinds intact, but plan to remove them and replace this year.
I love the room and those windows are amazing! I don't really care for the color palette, though.
Great use of color, especially in a rental. The room looks comfortable and sophisticated, and I really like the leaning art in the corner. Great job, Jenn!
Mmmm..... retro.... love it!
I need to know about that painting with the girl you see on the floor: it is stunning, I love the texture and it just draws me in.
I'm as poor as dirt, so I definitely know I couldn't afford it, but would love to know if you have issued a poster version of it.
This said, I think you are blessed with a great room and, well, your painter, so that is already making your job easier. I love the blue mixed in with the earthy tones: bold!
Awesome! Except for the paintings on the floor. Hang them up!
This is inspirational to me. This is a room that works and not just for the colors contest but as a whole. I can't imagine what you'd come up with on a much larger budget but your taste and style is on point.
you did an awesome job with what you have. i hate hate hate futons and i barely noticed yours because the colours of the throw pillows were distracting me...in a good way.
I love the paintings on the floor. Thay draw the eye to those fantastic windows. I lived in the San Francisco area for a couple of years so I know how important getting enough light is. Good job.
Sarrazak - thanks so much for what you say here....i often wish i had a much larger budget. Really wanting to get a new couch in the next year.
NOHJ!! - would love to hang them up, but the paintings aren't done yet. I'm working on a show coming up in New York. Small space and so they all rotate through here while i work on them.
HIMSL - thanks - yeah - we hate our futon too....can't wait to get a new couch.
barbara.agatha - no prints of this one yet. This piece will get released at Opera Gallery in New York. Prints will likely come in 2010. thanks so much...
I would have chosen ever-so-slightly warmer colours, but I love the furniture in this room and the way it all comes together. None of it looks like a contrived attempt at "eclectic chic". Congratulations on a room with a cool vibe!
What I want to know is where we can see more of your work, I love that one painting!
