Name: Giorgia & Barbara
Location: Santa Cruz, California
Type of Home: Rental Condo
Color Inspiration: We live in a rental, where we're not allowed to paint the walls! So we've brought color into our home through textiles and accessories, our artwork and that of our friends.
Thumbs Up Voting is only activated for 48 Hours — so don't delay!
Color Inspiration continued: We're drawn to warm, vibrant colors that reflect the nature that surrounds us. Teals and greens reflect the Pacific ocean we see from our windows, while ochres and terracottas remind us of our home town, Rome.
Colors Used: Colors we used: mustard yellow for the sofa, lots of green accents (vases, futon cover, cushion covers, glasses) and teal, deep reds and oranges in our artwork. We use white to balance the colors out so they don't become overwhelming!
Color Tip: Color should be fun, joyful, relaxing, inspiring. We want to come home and feel energized and welcomed by the colors we see.
Other tips: use colors that inspire you. And don't be afraid to paint your walls - we would if we could!

The art is fantastic! Really adds a lot of color to the room.
The art is amazing!!! Also really like the mis-matching pillows on the couch...

Love the art, especially the red and the turquoise pieces. Who's the artist?
Way to represent the Cruz, ladies!
From a fellow Santa Cruzan.
Thanks so much for the compliments! The large artwork is by our friend and neighbor Addie Rementer (www.TheHeartwoodGallery.com). We're big fans as you can tell! She hosts an Open Studios this weekend, for anyone local to the Santa Cruz area.
Love the colors. Love the art.
Beautiful home, really wonderful pieces in wonderful colors.
This room looks so cheery! I love it.
deeply atractive
Gorgeous!
Thumb up!
I am falling love with this coffee table.
Where can I get it??
It looks cheerful, tidy, clean, airy, beautiful!!
Is the green sofa opposite to the other sofa???
Thanks again for the many compliments! We put together an IKEA table top and legs to make the (affordable!) coffee table. I think the components are part of the VIKA system. And yes, the futon (which I covered in green fabric) faces the yellow sofa.
I like how everything in this room ties together without being boring. It is hard to have basic modern furniture yet have inviting, warm, classy, and unique space. The golden sofa looks great in the room because the color brings attention to the wood floors. I am inspired by how well you used color in this room without needing to paint the walls.
This room invites the guest in to sit and smile.
I love the little cactus in the tall vase. Is the yellow sofa IKEA too? (Forgive the dumb question, I don't have the catalog memorized like some!)
The yellow sofa is the IKEA Kramfors sofa, but we chose to cover it with a mustard yellow cotton-linen fabric from Bemz rather than the IKEA option. Bemz is a great Swedish company that offers IKEA sofa and armchair covers in a vast array of colors. The little cactus was repotted into a lucky find from our local Goodwill!
Awesome ensemble of colors, artworks and set-ups! I hope you guys win!! I love everything about your apartment pictures!! :)
A fan from San Francisco.
