Name: Alexandra
Location: Chicago
Type of Home: Condo
Color Inspiration: I started with the prints (behind the couch) my mom bought in Nepal. I found the rug to play off the color of the mat in the center print. Then the rug provided the rest of the palette.

Love the rug...where is it from?
This is beautiful!
Very pretty! All the patterns/fabrics are great and I like the niche standing out with a darker gold color.
ditto on the rug. I'm also liking the lamp shades. The room looks very liveable overall.
Love those lamps!
Very nice color combo. The painted niches are great. I also like the rug, and where did you get that great clock?
oooh Lamps! From where??
Add me to the growing list of those who love your lamps!
This is a great condo to begin with... love the rounded tops to the doorways and alcove. The gold accents are beautiful and work perfectly with the rich colors in the gorgeous rug.
Strange that the wall behind the couch looks white in one photo... doesn't do the color scheme justice.
a cuddly house of warmth
abc123, I've definitely seen those rugs at Anthropologie. It looks like it's been discontinued, but they have loads more that look similar!
Such an awesome room.
I like the colors and the way you've made the space warm and inviting without too much "stuff". I also LOVE the lamps and shades. Great job!
Love love love the navy chairs!
Absolutely love yellow walls and your shade is fabulous and the accent color in the alcoves compliment the walls so beautifully. Looks like a great condo with great bones!
thanks for sharing.
Absolutly beautiful!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your condo! Still jealous you got all three of mom's prints from Nepal:)
I like the white chair and pillows.
I really like the wall clock in the living room. Anybody knows where to get it from?
I love the eclectic feel of the room as well as the complimentary color scheme enriched by the warm sunshine that fills the room! Just give me a glass of wine and a good book!!
Thanks for the comments, everyone! Now to answer a few questions: I got a great deal on the rug at Anthropologie because it was a floor sample. The lamp shades are also from my favorite store, Anthropologie. The lamp bases are actually from Kmart(!) but I'm not sure if they are still carrying them. The clock was on clearance at Target, but that was also a while ago.....
because of those prints from your mother, you must have gotten her eye for design
Now THIS is a room I'd like to live in. Wonderfully soft yet colorful, coordinated but not 'matchy', casual but not cluttered. And lots of fun details (lamps, prints, alcove). It makes me smile!
beautiful! ditto on the rug/laps. love the butterflies, too! very interesting and eclectic without being overwhelming.
very beautiful and inviting!
so creative, and with such an eclectic array of sprinkled colors....that yellow is amazing...love it! great job!
Absolutely beautiful!
The accent color in the plaster detail ties it all together. Great space
Gorgeous!
well-done!!
I love the color scheme. Nice details throughout.
A lovely room. Great work!
at first glance this room is appealing because of the beautiful color palette. As I study it longer I am drawn in further by the DETAILS! The color sets the mood, the trinkets and artwork give it history. It feels like this room has a story.
the coffee table is one of a kind!
alex you're place looks fabulous i love it!
Awesome job!
Wow, the title is the best description of color I've seen. I'll take a grande spiced chai please :)
So charming! It's exactly the type of room I want for myself! I want a cup of chai just looking at it!
Not a whole lot of colour happening here...
It is a clean, tidy, simple, interesting, homely,.. You have many beautiful objects. Where did you get the coffee table?
I saved an old door from a dumpster and turned it into that coffee table. It's fun because I can glue different paper into the panels when I want a change.
Love the colors. So warm and Earthy.
I'm not sure how this room fits into this contest. It's a COLOR CONTEST. It even says this contest is to build confidence for people who are afraid to use color in their homes. This room is for people who don't like color in their homes. It's pale yellow, the farthest from color! It's one shade away from white!
Ouch. Well, I DO have bold color in the alcove and as well as other accents. I painted the chairs a deep color as well. A saturated main wall color is great but it's not the ONLY way to use color.
I think I came off a bit strong. I really do like the room, just thought it might be a bit more appropriate for another contest. I like the lamps and the architecture on the alcove is a great touch.
Well, I still don't see how this is a room for people who don't like color but I agree it's not as bold as other entries. Notice, though, how many people have used accent walls and leave the others neutral. That can be more livable for some people. Thanks for the other comment, though. And maybe I'll step up the drama for next year!
The arches make room appear more inviting. Overall the interior works really nice. It is not too crowded. It seems as the room gets a lot of daylight, which makes the space illuminate more. The earthly color scheme remainds me of the Meyer May House by Frank Lloyd Wright.
I hurts me to see rooms where all of the furniture seems to have been placed after the TV was placed, i.e. where the TV dictates the furniture placement. It is the number one problem with the majority of rooms on AT and a sad comment on American culture. Regarding color however: nice job. NOW MOVE THE TV. It should NOT be the focus of the room regardless of how much it is used.
Everything is very harmonious.
