Color Inspiration: Red is the color of passion (an excellent color for the bedroom) and I am drawn to a bold contrasty color palette.

Shaw's Original Fir...
THIS is super cool.
ha @ the little white figures on the wall! how fun.
love the red.
Great mood!
Could you tell me more about the bookcase/room divider? I absolutely love it! Thanks.
I love the book pockets above the nightstands . . . and the white figurines . . . I'm with plumeria . . how fun! Nicely done.
My bedroom is also red. I used Glidden Victorian Red after seeing it in a friend's home office. This is one of my favorite color schemes.
Sexy, Creative and Bold. Great job!
I love the book racks on either side of the bed! Are you thinking about adding drapes? That window plus the glossy paint must reflect a lot of light inside, even at night.
Very creative art installation behind the bed!! And I love the way you divided the space...
I LOVE the painted green army men. So whimsical. I wonder if he first intended it to be a mock headboard, but then decided he'd get poked in the head so placed it higher? Haha.
I also have a red bedroom, so this one really jumped out at me. Sweet!
*Correction - I now see they're not just green army men, but all kinds of characters. There's a traffic cop!
Matt.. will you marry me? :)
ugh this bedroom is incredible. i am in love.
can we get more pictures of your beautiful, beautiful place? i want to see more of the bookshelf and the sitting area beyond!
Love the colors, the divider bookshelf and the book racks by the bed, but the army men are just a little too out there for me. From a distance, in the first few photos, it just looks like garbage (gum wrappers or something) stuck to a wall.
I love the plastic figures on the wall over the bed. Very fun.
This is great. It looks like you took some elements from this season's Design Star (or they took something from you!) :) Good job!
Sudden urge to go to Target.
:)
Red is one of the hardest colors to match and you matched the bed linens with the wall perfectly. I love the installation on the wall, that is one of the most creative ideas I've seen in a long time. Great job!
I was really liking this until I saw the final photograph revealing what the strip above the bed actually was - and then I loved it :)
i too have deco'd with little plastic men! love it!
I think the room divider and bookcase is from SmartFurniture.
Ingenious!
@pxlchk1 - that is a funny comment! :)
I got the room divider from CB2. One of my most favorite stores in Chicago.
Red. White. Dynamite.
army men = cool idea
You used Benjamin Moore paints all up in hizzere I presume? But seriously, this room is shockingly cool. It manages to balance beautiful elegance with a subtle but firm sense of playful creativity. Well played. Well played.
so your favorite color is blue?
Answers to questions:
The plastic figures are army men, police, indians, cowboys and firemen; it's my war and peace mural.
Bed=Ikea
Room Divider=CB2
I've thought about curtains but it's a 22' long bank of windows so covering all of them becomes more difficult.
Yes red is incredibly hard to match across different elements, and the paint really isn't as glossy as it photographs.
I've never watched this season of Design Star, I'm not a huge reality TV fan.
I'm working on submitting a house tour so maybe there'll be more sometime soon.
And aZinaM, I am currently seeing someone special, but am flattered by the offer :)
how are the army men attached? i love it, by the way. i love lots of little things grouped into a bigger thing, as a general rule. but the idea of putting so many holes in a (rental) a wall seems like begging for my landlord to keep my deposit.
Hot glue.
Just the perfect colour of red (so many "ech" shades of red out there..), perfect colour combinations, lighting placement, wall unit...amazing...so much vibrancy here..and COLOR - love it.
I too would love to see a tour of more rooms so if you do...make sure AT hears about it..hey, are you a decorator/designer??? If not, holy cow you've missed your calling...
Literally, the greatest idea I've seen in a long time that isn't tacky is the painted figures used as your wall art - ingenious idea!..absolutely love this and wish I had logged in earlier to vote for you :(...sorry
Ah, I'd forgotten to mention this in my previous posting..if you were at all considering a window covering...you could get a middle of the road roller blind in white (not the cheap ones because they buckle) and a) find someone you know who's an artist to do either a painted script of words or just letters, etc in black and red of varying fonts - fabric marker if you want to cover the blind in small words or words with their definitions, or something like the animal groupings eg Battery of Barracudas, Volary of Birds or b) get a print shop to stencil on the blind a large black print of a poster or design...something along those lines might add to the moderness of your room AND give you the option of blocking out the light if needed.
Oh that black and white striped glass vase!
I had one just like it, and it sat on the higher of two wall shelves above my desk. One night, out of know where it fell and shattered into a million pieces. My laptop has a little dent on top thanks to the occaision!
I have to be honest, I am not a fan of red rooms. That said, I am voting thumbs up becuase that art piece with the white figurines is awesome...
You have always made everything into a piece of art my friend. Well done! I love the red.
wonderful and creative. Black white and red usually looks a bit dated to me but this is amazing!
the army men is an incredibly clever touch!
This room looks awesome! Great color and the figured for the headboard are freaky cool.
