Congratulations to our 2010 color champions, Joshua in Brooklyn (US Winner) & Tim in Toronto (Int'l Winner)! After one month of submissions and voting by our entire community, these two fully deserve the honor as the most beautiful and colorful rooms in the world for 2010. Head below for details.

Joshua's "Vintage Primary" Room - US Champion 2010

The tiny winning room in Joshua's Brooklyn home (shown above, top row photos) wowed the readers with its skillful use of dramatic dark teal walls and classic complements of burgundy and caramel. The deep color in combination with a sophisticated mix of textures in the decor creates a signature style, convincing us that there is no need to eschew dark colors in small spaces.

Color tips from Joshua: Be bold! ...But make decisions carefully. Take paint chips home so you can see what the color looks like in the actual space and lighting conditions. Keep your furniture neutral and add color through accessories. It will allow you to keep your furniture longer and change the look of your room later. Fabric is an easy, way to make a big impact, personalize your space and create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. Don't be matchy-matchy; mixing colors, textures and patterns adds a sense of excitement and fun.

Tim's "Yellow, Grey, Blue" Living Room - International Champion 2010

Tim from Toronto is our international winner, with a light and bright room (shown above, bottom row photos) that brings together not only a palette of interesting colors, but a sophisticated mix of patterns as well. Patterned upholstery, plenty of pillows and a "happy rug" make for a room where the strong colors are just one part of the design story.

Color tips from Tim: Pick the color combination you love and play with the different shades of these colors, either on wall, or fabrics for drapes and pillows, or area rug. Be Bold on elements that are easy to change. That way, you can change the feel of your room easily over different seasons without big financial commitment. One trick I used for myself is to do pillows with different designs on both sides. When it's time to change from summer to fall, just turn the pillow around!

Congratulations to all of our finalists and a big thanks to everyone who entered for sharing their colorful style with Apartment Therapy. Thanks to the readers for helping to choose our winners, Joshua and Tim, out of the many creative rooms on display throughout the last month - we hope you will all join us again next time!
