I finally replaced my terrible IKEA coffee table. Slowly but surely, all the beech is vacating. $6.29 at small-town-Ontario Goodwill.

Okay, I completely <3 Jason. I referenced his blog and found we share the same love-hate relationship with IKEA and we trump the desire to find 'Mr. Right' with 'Mr. Right-Now' - when it comes to furniture. Even temporary upgrades are redeeming and fill the otherwise vacuous void that would otherwise be present in our lives if we waited patiently until we could afford, say, that Eames Plywood Coffee Table that would make our friends *so* jealous. Gah, why not enjoy the moment and the evolution of it all? It may be my lack of patience that leads me to constantly purchase and repurpose my pieces, but rifling through photos of my living room and its many design iterations over the years is so fulfilling.

(For the record, I have the same darn couch, the same darn light, and the same darn side and coffee tables.)
I must say, the ALANG lamp from Ikea is one of the better purchases I (and millions of others?) have made there. I have one in my office, too. The quality of light is really soft and lovely and the price is right. I see they now offer it in brown. I wonder what the light would be like . . .
Anyway.
Thanks for writing, Casafroggy.
Love the table, and the price is absolutely right. Well done you. What is it about Ikea that all the furniture snobs can't wait to beat up on them. Anyway, nice looking place.
I'm up there with Casafroggy. Being a current college student I'm at that terrifying stage where Ikea looks great and practical but I just KNOW I'm going to hate it as soon as I graduate. :(
...and I really DO want that Eames coffee table that will make all of my friends soooooo jealous... but that 100 dollar imitation Eames chair from Urban outfitters looks pretty hot.
Well this room certainly screams a loud POLIFORM. It has that European, black and white - and brown - sensibility to it that is unmistakably Polifrom-garbesque. It's very 1960s - black and white films, beautiful women in beautiful dresses in an earlier era of black, white, and blonde. I like very much - it steps one step beyond dodgy, and stays in a class it's own.
I am an ikea snob in some ways, but I will always LOVE my expedit.
